Tenerife resorts
Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and is located approximately 200 miles off the coast of North West Africa. Mount Teide (dormant volcano) is the highest mountain in Spain and dominates the heart of Tenerife, standing at a staggering 3.720 metres and can be seen from other Canary Islands.
Tenerife is full of natural beauty and stunning scenery, particularly high around Mount Teide, which is why this area was chosen in the making of films including Planet of the Apes and Star Wars. Being a volcanic island, Tenerife has an incredible landscape and the different climatic zones help to identify the difference between the North and the South of the Island.
The south of Tenerife is desert like, enjoying year round sunshine and very little rainfall, minimum daytime temperatures are around 15 deg C. The north of the island however is cooler and greener and experiences more rainfall. Because of the extreme climate that Mount Teide experiences it can quite often be seen snow capped for up to three months of the year.
It has to be said that the very popular area of Tenerife which runs from Las Americas up towards La Caleta has in recent years been re-branded. The resort of Costa Adeje as it is now known incorporates the Tenerife resorts of Puerto Colon, Torviscas, Fanabe, and Playa del Duque. Beyond here you have the exclusive Abama golf resort.
Anybody who has visited these areas recently will also see that it hasn`t just been a case of re-branding for names sake. The whole area has been completely refurbished, modernised and improved.
Tenerife is served well by two international airports, Los Rodeos in the North and Reina Sofia in the South as well as a seaport in the islands capital city of Santa Cruz.
