Discover the real Tenerife
If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the main holiday resorts in Tenerife, then visit some of these places of interest. Tenerife has a lot more to offer visitors than sun, sea and sand. Stunning scenery, spectacular rock formations, and quaint Canarian villages are only a short drive away from Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje.
Teide National Park 
Teide National Park was declared in 1954 and is around 2000km above sea level and includes a massive volcanic crater of approximately 48km in circumference with Mount Teide rising out of it at a height of 3720m. The national park experiences severe weather conditions during the winter months and access can be closed due to heavy snow fall. During the summer, temperatures can reach up to 40 deg C. The forests have picnic and barbecue areas which are popular with both residents and visitors.
Los Gigantes 
Los Gigantes is worthy of a visit if only to see the Cliffs. The cliffs of the Giants are an amazing sight to see and the only way to get a closer look is by boat. The small town of Los Gigantes is a popular holiday destination with a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants.
Masca 
Masca was relatively unknown until recently, but is now a popular place for visitors who want to discover more about Tenerife. Situated in the northwest and surrounded by the Teno Mountains, Masca is possibly one of the most beautiful and picturesque parts of Tenerife. Fantastic rock formations, deep ravines and lush flora accompany the narrow winding roads that lead to the village where the houses sit precariously on narrow ridges.
Barranco del Infierno 
Do you enjoy walking? Barranco del Infierno in Adeje is a walkers paradise. The ravine is an oasis of lush green flora and one of the few areas of Tenerife that has natural running water. The walk takes about three to four hours and is more popular in the mornings before the sun reaches its peak.The walk is a six and a half kilometer round trip, so you will need to be suitably prepared. It is important to wear appropriate clothing and take enough refreshments with you. You won't find a McDonalds anywhere along the route!
Almost from the moment you start the walk you will notice the tranquility and natural beauty that surrounds you. Walking at your own pace you are free to stop as often as you like, indeed there are several specific vantage points along route which make for great photo opportunities.

Vilaflor
Vilaflor is the highest village in Spain and is surrounded by magnificent pine forests. Vilaflor is said to have the purest air you can imagine. Vilaflor is the perfect place for those who enjoy activities such as rock climbing, hiking, paragliding and mountain biking. The village is home to some of the best craftsmen on the island and is renowed for its agriculture.
Candelaria 
Candelaria is a very popular coastal town close to Santa Cruz and about 45 - 60 minute drive away from Los Cristianos. The town is particularly popular with Spanish tourists and plays host to the most important fiesta on the island which also celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2005. The Church and Church square are guarded by several bronze statues of the Guanche Kings. The town has a lovely atmosphere and is well worth a visit if you want a relaxing day, browsing round the shops or enjoying a drink in Spanish style.
Icod de los Vinos 
Icod de los Vinos is best known for its 1000+ year old dragon tree which has pride of place in the Drago Park and is well worth visiting. The dragon trees are said to be the oldest species of fauna on the island, but the one at Icod de los Vinos is certainly the largest. The town itself has a lovely atmosphere where visitors can relax and enjoy lunch in one of many cafes in the plaza.
