Jobs in Tenerife

If you are looking for jobs or work in Tenerife right now, then the reality is that you will probably struggle to find any type of job let alone anything secure. The official unemployment figure is currently around 30% and work opportunities are scarce.
There's no doubt that Tenerife has been affected by world recession. Simply take a look around what used to be busy shopping centres and you will not see the tourist numbers of a couple of years ago. Many shops, bars, restaurants and other businesses have now closed their doors for good. Even summer jobs are now more difficult to find. The tourists are certainly fewer in numbers but it's not all down to global recession. Other factors including airline strikes, the cost of air travel, and Icelandic volcanoes have all played a part.
If you are fortunate enough to find a job in Tenerife, the chances are that you won't be earning much more than 5 Euros per hour. The good news here is that your employer will probably ask you to work 10 hours a day, 6 days a week! That should give you enough to pay about half your monthly rent on a two bedroom apartment.
