Diving in Tenerife
Diving in Tenerife is for experienced divers and for those who have never dived before, but would like to learn. In fact, if you have never been scuba diving before, there is probably no better place to learn!
With warm waters averaging 22c, and excellent visibility you can discover the underwater caves, wrecks and marine life with ease.
There are many professional dive centres in Tenerife to choose from and we recommend that you choose one of these centres to get the best out of your diving in Tenerife. The benefits of diving with a Tenerife dive centre are that you can experience the sites that suit you and your ability, in complete safety.
In the warm, crystal clear waters of Tenerife there are many species of marine life. Some of the most frequently seen include:
Rays and Angel Sharks
Rays are quite a common sight and these include the Marbled Electric Ray, the Eagle Ray and the Common Stingray. Stingrays are known for the sting that they can give to predators, however they are not aggressive towards divers. The endangered Angel Shark is also frequently seen in the shallower areas. The Angel Shark is not regarded as dangerous, so don't worry!
Turtles
The Green Turtle and Loggerhead Turtle are both endangered but can often seen in the waters of Tenerife. The Green sea turtle gets its name from the green tint of the calipee, which is the fat under its shell. We should all be thankful that turtles, in spite of their cumbersome shell, have managed to survive because the world would be a much less interesting place without these magnificent creatures.
Dolphins
The most frequently seen dolphin is the Bottlenose, with it's distinctive shaped nose. The Bottlenose dolphin is grey, and can grow upto 3 metres long. Although dolphins can be playful, they tend to be elusive. They are relatively easy to spot as they break the surface of the water.
So what does it cost?
Less than you probably think...Depending on the dive centre that you choose, a single dive will cost between 30€ - 35 €. Booking a number of dives in advance will often get you a better price. All good dive centres have a full range of diving equipment available to hire at very competitive prices.
We suggest you try Easy Blue World who provide a full range of services and are the reference source for all major tour operators!
